The studio

Real production, real responsibility

Studio L308 is the student-led production studio at Ayrshire College, built around the HNC Media Analysis and Production course. Students take real roles, make real content and build a real portfolio.

Studio L308 gives media students a production environment that mirrors industry. Across the year, teams analyse the shows they love, plan their own productions, then pitch, rehearse, record and edit them.

Every piece is made to a professional standard and published for showcase, YouTube or portfolio use. The work is the assessment, and the assessment is the work.

Four content strands

01

L308 Originals

Mini-docs, student profiles, community stories and behind-the-scenes features.

02

L308 Reviews

Film and TV reviews, ratings, watchlists and Top 4s, shared through our Letterboxd and Serializd.

03

Produced by L308

Commissions for college departments, charities and local partners, including promotional content for the college.

04

Studio L308 Showpiece

The flagship final production: a polished documentary, game show, chat show, magazine or review special.

From idea to finished show

Every production moves through the same three stages, the way a real one does.

01

Analyse

We study formats and audiences, working out what makes great television actually work.

02

Plan

Pitch, proposal, treatment, shot lists and schedules. The paperwork real productions run on.

03

Produce

Rehearse, record, edit and screen, as a working production team with defined roles.

More than a qualification

What students leave with, beyond the certificate.

A real portfolio

Finished work published for showcase, YouTube or portfolio use, not coursework that sits in a folder.

Industry habits

Call sheets, schedules, deadlines and crew discipline, learned by doing them properly.

Range across roles

Direction, camera, sound, editing, presenting and production management, swapped between productions.
